Suzuki's budget beating Alto is once again the king.
The Suzuki Alto has once again been named Australia’s cheapest car to own and operate by the motoring clubs of Australia. The Alto GL dominated the light car class and easily outperformed all other competitors in annual surveys conducted by the RAA, RACQ and RACT. Based on average car operating costs over a five year period, the Alto GL manual ranked first among all new vehicles in Australia with a weekly bill ranging from $116 to $120 depending on different regulatory costs in each state. Taking into account purchase price, depreciation, petrol prices, maintenance and insurance, the Alto returned an overall cost of just over 40 cents per kilometre.
