Suzuki Snowsport Championships
The 2011 Suzuki National Snowsport Series has kicked off in spectacular fashion with world number one snowboard cross rider and Suzuki brand ambassador Alex “Chumpy” Pullin finishing a hardly fought second place in race two at Victoria’s Mount Hotham.
Chasing his eighth National Championship, the reigning world champion and World Cup winner was gallant in defeat, delivering high praise of 18-year-old Shinya Momono, the current Japanese junior snowboard cross champion, who backed up his third place in the series’ opening event on Aug 6 with this win. American Michael Perle finished today’s five-nation action packed final in third place behind Pullin.
The Suzuki National Snowsport Championships represents the highest level of snow competition in Australia, with athletes competing across the four disciplines of snowboarding, alpine skiing, freestyle and cross-country skiing. It takes place from 6 – 27 August spread between the alpine resorts of Mt Hotham, Perisher, Thredbo and Falls Creek.
Through its partnership with Ski & Snowboard Australia, Suzuki has been the major sponsor of the elite competition event for the last two seasons.
