Jimny Ranked at the Top for Resale Value

Jimny Ranked at the Top for Resale Value

Look, the Jimny has never really needed help selling itself. People love them. There are waitlists, even Facebook groups with thousands of members who have made the Jimny their entire personality. And to be honest, it makes sense.

But now there’s a new reason to love it that has nothing to do with what it is capable of, or that very specific joy spotting one out in the wild. According to the Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA) and AutoGrab, the Jimny has held the #1 spot for resale value among Australian SUVs consistently for over a year, across two age categories, month after month. Not a one-time thing, a streak.

  1. Ranked #1 for retained value in the 2–4-year-old SUV category consistently, for over a year.
  2. Ranked #1 for retained value in the 5–7-year-old SUV category consistently, for over a year.
  3. Average resale value of 111% across both segments, meaning it’s worth more used than it was new.
  4. All figures sourced from independent AADA and AutoGrab data. We didn’t make them up. I promise.

What Does ‘Retained Value’ Actually Mean?

An important question. Retained value (or resale value) is the percentage of a car’s original purchase price it holds when it hits the used market. The AADA and AutoGrab track this using real national sales data, so actual sale transactions.

A retained value of 100% means a car sells used for exactly what it costs new. Over 100% means it sells for more. The Jimny has been averaging 111% across both age segments for the past year. Which means Jimny owners are, in fact, making money by driving their cars. It’s quite impressive when you think about it.

Why should you care about resale value before you buy it? Here’s the short version:

  1. It lowers your total cost of ownership. Depreciation is the sneaky cost nobody talks about at the dealership. A car that holds its value means you lose less money just by owning it.
  2. It gives you a stronger trade-in. A healthy resale value means more leverage when it’s time to upgrade.
  3. It’s just a smarter long-term purchase. Consistent resale performance over time, not just a good month. This is what gives you genuine confidence that your investment is holding up. The Jimny has that in the bag.

Why Does the Jimny Keep Holding Its Value?

It’s not just one thing. It’s everything about it. Month after month, the AADA/AutoGrab Automotive Insights Report keeps putting the Jimny at #1 and that consistency is the whole point. Any car can have a good month. It takes something special to sit at the top, month after month, year after year. Here’s how the Jimny does it.

Proven Reliability and Durability

The Jimny has been around since 1970. That’s not a coincidence; that’s proven reliability. A tough four-wheel drive made for off-road activities, with a strong body, solid axles, and low-range gears. It’s built to go places and come back in one piece. Used car buyers know what they’re getting when they see a Jimny listed. That confidence keeps demand strong, and strong demand keeps that value high.

Consistent Demand in the Used Car Market

Here’s the thing about resale value, it’s really just a reflection of how many people want your car. And a lot of people want a Jimny. Those weekend activity enthusiasts, city workers who need something zippy, first car owners or just people who have downsized to an apartment and have an incredibly small car spot. The used market stays busy month after month, which is exactly why the retained value figures stay strong month after month. It’s not complicated. It’s just a very wanted car.

Distinctive Design

While the rest of the SUV market is busy looking like each other, the Jimny has just kept being the Jimny. Boxy, iconic and immediately recognisable. It’s got a look that doesn’t seem to date, a fanbase that stays loyal and clearly a resale value that reflects both. It is just a car people genuinely want to own and one that holds its value.
